Talking about Napalm Death and grindcore I always refer back to the website created by a former Spotify Data Alchemist called Glenn McDonald. He mapped out all the genres that are used to classify music on Spotify. You can see it www.everynoise.com
Can you believe there were, at last count around 1500 genres – gasp! And I like to consider myself as a multi-genre musician as I have so far written in around maybe 5 or 6 genres……. ah well, gotta keep learning.
I personally see it as a good thing that its so mind bogglingly complex as I (and many other songwriters and composers) think that genres are generally very limited and not very descriptive of our my music.
Words can never do music justice, no matter how thesauri and dictionaries you refer too.
If you wanna hear what an artist’s music sounds like, go listen to it. It’s easier and more accessible than ever.
